That Requisition! TO THE EDITOR OF THE SHOALHAVEN NEWS. [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News and South Coast Districts Advertiser — 6 June 1891

That Requisition! TO THB EDITOR OF THB SHOAtHAVBN ItHWS. Dear Sir, — I wouhl esteem it a great favor if you can find space in your valuable paper for me to contradict what Appears to me to be a false state ment in the ' Shoalharen Telegraph' of the 3rd prox., if the name is in tended for the undersigned, as I have every reason to believe it is. While looking over the abovenamed paper my eye caught the list of names set forth as faithful supporters of Mr. John Maclean for a seat in Parliament. I was surprised and annoyed no little to find my name on that list A3 a faithful supporter of Mr. Maclean. I never gave anyone authority to put my name on any such list, much less on Mr. Maclean's. For this reason, I do not think he is the man in his present position to represent ub in Parliament. He is all very well as an editor, but not as editor and member of Parlia ment at the same time for this district. Our representing numbers on thoso two great factors for the public good of a district ...

Fruit-growing in the Shoalhaven District. TO THE EDITOR OF THE SHOALHAVEN NEWS. [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News and South Coast Districts Advertiser — 6 June 1891

Fruit-growing i& the SlioaUiavea District tOTBM BDtTOB OF IHB SKOALHAVBS m\K. Sir, — During some recent visits to your district I have been forcibly struck by the absence of any extensive operations in the way of fruit-growing, for which your district is admirably adapted. Some of your people think that no grapes except the Isabella will flourish so near the sea, but I am convinced tnat every kind of grape will grow well in the district If there are doubts in the minds of the farmers, let them plant the Isabella grape, for which there will always be a great de mand, not here only bat in Europe, for blending and maturing. As to other fruits, the apple is per haps the most desirable, from the many sorts that can be grown, and the almost inexhaustible demand that exists for it in Europe, coupled with the fact that the transit is growing yearly more secure, more rapid, and cheaper, ftere in a fortune to be made out of apples by any grower who will put energy into the business.
