CORRESPONDENCE. MR. RALPH AND MR. BROWN. TO THE EDITOR OF THE GUARDIAN. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 15 April 1880

CORRESPONrDENCE. MR. RALPH AND?MR. BROWN. T, TO THE EDITOR OF TIIE GUARDIAN. Smi,-I fear that Lord Stanley in his christian endeavor to reform the criminal, sadly failed. There are those whose cere bral developmentsuperinduces crime; such, although they may so far conform to the usages of society as to escape continuous incarceration, are, nevertheless, undesirable companions, and unworthy citizens ; happy are those vwho have ohly such against whom to defend themselves. They are gentlemen compared to the rffilans allowed, nay, even encouraged to asperse the fair character of respectable men under protection of anony-. mity.-Yours, &e., .TAMES A. RALPH. Bunyip, 9th April, 1SS0. oWe publish Mr. Ralph's letter, but beg to inform him that any further communi cations on this subject will be consigned to the waste paper basket. The last sentence in his letter is an unwarrantel assertion as far as the only meaning we can derive from it is concerned. At least, we can safely say that...

NOTES AND JOTTINGS AT TRARALGON. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 15 April 1880

NOTES AND JOTTINGS AT TRARALGON. -4-- (rnoMi .L CORRESPONDENT.) Your readers will no doubt remem her an 'aecouitof iish oncounter which toak place between a noted resident of this place and an old man kangaroo, in which the noted resident got sadly routed; and returnied home with his legs, encased in the sleeves of his coat, his nether garments having been ap propriated by the old man. Curious as it m nay appear, this individual's penchlnt. for exciting skirmishes with the beasts of' the field seems not to have been thorounghly'cired, for last wreek he had anothcr;go in, selecting that harmless little creature, the hive bee, as ]hisyvictim. But if. your read ers had seen the noted resident after the encounter, they would have come to the conclusion that he, and not the little busy bee, had been the victim. (To avoid tautology, I shall, in my aet ount of what took place, allude to the noe l re-i lent as MIr. B.-M-r. A. might lhave done as well, but then iome wag might have added doub...

THE AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY. TO THE EDITOR OF THE GUARDIAN. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 15 April 1880

THE AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY. TO TIE EDITOR OF TIE GUARDIAN. SIn,-I am a great believer in news papers, and the local press in particular. has always had my warmest sympathy ; but I have an utter contempt for any newspaper reporter who cannot report facts as they occur. In reading the account of the Buln Buln Agricultural Society's show in the -last-issue- of your. Drouin contemporary, I was much struck with certain Inaccuracies, or rather un truths in the latter portion of the. report, regarding the toast of "The Press." It was certainly an unimportant item, and might have been left out altogether as the toast was only hurriedly proposed, and would not have been mentioned but for the thoughtfulness of a geitlesain who. like myself, is a strong supporter of the local Press, and who in a few hurried words said he thought the meeting ought not to terminate before drinking to the toast, "The Press." The toast having been duly honored, Mr. Were of the " Australasian" briefly responded. One ...
