SHOT FIRED AT TRAIN. [Newspaper Article] — Heidelberg News and Greensborough and Diamond Creek Chronicle — 4 April 1914

L:SHOT .FIRED AT TRAIN. :'As' the 3.20 p.m. " up" train to Mc - bourne was passing under the railway bridge at Heidelberg-road, Ivanhoe, on Su'iday last, a shot from a supposed pea rifle was heard, and the guard found a bullet embedded in the woodwork of the van. On the train reaching Alphington, the matter was reported to the officials there, who informed the Fairfield police. Constable Harrison, of Ivanhoe, however, did not receive any intimation of the affair until Monday morning's post, which was altogether too late. Had he been notified at once, he could have al most immediately been on the scene, and most probably effected an arrest. It was no doubt the act of one of the many larrikins from other suburbs who invade the district on Sundays.
