Commercial, MELBOURNE MARKETS. FAT SHEEP. 50,000 yarded, comprising 30® trucks and 8255 by road. The mar ket was fully supplied with good and prime qualities, consisting chiefly of serviceable and medium weight cross breds and comebacks, in both ewes and wethers, with a fair proportion of moderate and useful grade merino wethers, and a few representative consignments of prime heavy weight** The demand was unsteady, and i» many instances prices ruled fully 6d. per head under late rates. Towards the elose, however, the demand im proved for best descriptions, when prices recovered to about equal to former puotations. Old and inferior merino ewes, which were largely represented, realised low figures. Briagolong*. (From our own correspondent). Last Friday evening bush fire» were blazing very fiercely towards the east of the town. It was ouly by constant and solid work that a break was burnt and the town saved from any immediate danger. Volunteers were called for to go and burn th& long growth off the cemetery, and a large number rolled up and did good work. On Wednesday, 1 7th inst., a game of- tennis was played on the local court, resulting in a win for Briago long. Afternoon tea was supplied by the lady supporters.
