Bamimoeb, Feb. 3.—The American- has received the foUowing special despatch: Cumberland, Md., Feb. 3—Noon.—The guard of one company of infantry, posted at Patterson Creek bridge, 8 miles east of Cumberland, was attacked at half-past one o'clock, yesterday afternoon, by 500 rebel cavalry, under Col. Bosser, and, after a spirited resistance, in which two of our men were killed and ten wounded, the greater part of the company were captured. : . This accomplished, the rebels set fire to the bridge and, leaving it to destraction, started off with their prisoners-in 4he direction of Komney. The employes of the railroad succeeded in staying the fire and saved the bridge with only slight damage to it. Gen. 'Averell with his command, who had been sent out from Martinsburg by Gen.
