Official Paper of Hlatsmin County Verms:—Payable In Advance* ONE COPY, one year, $2 00 ONE COPY, six mouths, SI 00 POSSIBLE DAN6EIL It is often the case that at the very time we imagine ourselves beyond dan* ger we are in the greatest danger. Success at one time frequently breeds poverty and distress at another. Such is apt to be the ultimate result of our pres ent abundant harvest. We have learned by experience as well as observation, that we are liable to be too ambitious, and while enjoying an invigorating draught from the overflowing cup of success, we often to lose sight of all beyond it. The bountiful harvest we are enjoying this season may be the harvest of next. Whether it is or not, we should at least consider it in that light, in order to save ourselves from want and embarrassment should such prove to be the case. The main point for every one to...

THE JAMESTOWN ALERT. ISSUED EVERY TUESDAY MORNING By MARSHALL MCCLURE. Official Paper of Stutsman County Terms:--Payable in Advance. ONE COPY, one year, $3 00 ONE COPY, six months, $100 UEEP YOUR MOXKY AT 1LOJ1E The present bountiful harvest is sure to briug within the immediate vicinity of Jamestown thousands ot dollars. The greater portion of this money will be placed in the hands of farmers who will probably be obliged to spend the greater part of it early in the fall and during the winter. Now, it is of the utmost import ance to all concerned that every dollar, so far as possible, is kept at home. Make as few outside purchases as possible that is, do not purchase anything "out side" which you can buy at home. Remember that the proceeds of this crop must be used as capital for the next. Every purchase you make out side which could have been made at home cripples you to a greater or less extent. If every one would use that same diligence in keeping their money at home that they d...

THE JAMESTOWN ALERT- ISSUED EVERY TUESDAY MORNING BY MAHBHAM. MCCLURE. THOSE CLAIM*. There are over fifteen jumpable tree claims in Stutsman county, and fifty in dividuals ready to jump/'' 'emn as soon as they are advised as to their location. It seems wrong to jump a man's claim but in many cases it is n"t wrong. A person either nas a right, or has no right. If hp has lived up to the letter of the law to the best of his ability the law will pro tect him. If be has not, the law does not recognize him at a claimant, and he has no right to ask it to. There are ban* dreds of tree claims and homestead en tries made by persons who do not intend, and never did intend to improve them, to any great extent but simply hold them in any way they can until they advance to a desired figure, and then sell them oat. This class of claimants and homesteaders are no better than any other class of gov ernment swindlers, and their claim, when jumpable, ought to be jumped. This course is damaging to ...

"N-j 1 \^%c cC tsT- "HI 1 THE JAMESTOWN ALERT. ISSUED EVERY TUESDAY MORNING BY MABSHALL MCCLURE. STUTSMAN COUXTY POLlTlCi. The political situation in this county ia so badly mixed that it is almost im possible for any one to form an intelligent opinion ss to which of the many aspirants for the different offices stands the best show for election. The principal office, and over which in all probability there will be a fierce fight, is the office of Reg ister ot Deeds. It is still thought by some individual Democrats of influence, that party lines will be drawn, and that ihe Democrats will draw them but our best informed politicians are firm in the belief that no such step will be taken. That there will be no party fight at all: that there will be but one convention, and that a people's convention. Whether or no this will be the case, it is at present hard to say but it is the opinion ot the Alert that it would be the wisest course for both parties to pursue, as neither par ty is su...

WASHINGTON. WASHINGTON, Aug. 28th, 18S0. Special Corresppndence to the Alert. General Meyer, cliipf of the Signal Bu reau just deceased, had hosts of friend* here. His services though of great value the cost and in agricultral regions, were fully appreciated here, and the man himself was liked. A disgraceful squab* bit over the vacant place has already com* meuced. The Washington event of the week is the change in the postoffice department, the retirement of Judge Key, and the comii of his successor, Hon. Horace M§ynard. Judge Key has paid strict at* 'ntion to the business of the office. I find that most Washingtonians expect an effi* ient and honest administration from Mr. ivnard, who is well known here from i. long service in congress. letter has been received here from an my officer in a prominent position say* iug that the letter of general Hancock to general Sherman on the electoral count which is before the public, is not the let* ter refered to by those democrats at Cincinna...
