In anothtr column the management of the smelter here announces that that In stitution is now completed, is ready for business and solicits ore consignments. It will not be blown in until enough ore is secured and delivered at the smelter to keep it running at least two months. Secretary Melnhard says that considerable has already been contracted for, but none has yet been hauled In. This gentleman will have charge of the company's finances and business affairs, while Charles Laughlln, who built the plant and has been with the Union Smelt ing Manufacturing company of St. Louis, the makers, for fifteen years as construct ing engineer, will remain in charge as superintendent. Nibley has again taken the public into his contiJence regarding his. railroad building plans, through an inter view in the Portland Telegram. It makes interesting reading, but should be taken with some salt. The Telegram says: "In a few days construction work will begin on the railroad to Prairie City. It is to be an extension of the Sumpter Val ley railroad from Sumpter. Contractors are now on the ground figuring on the work, and the first contract for eighteen miles will probably be let next week. "The Information conies direct from C V. Nibley, manager of the bumpter Val ley railroad. When seen at the Portland, Ar. Nibley said, further, that everything is progressing as rapidly as could be ex pected. A number of public spirited citizens of Sumpter met in Ellis opera house Mon day evening for the purpose of organizing a Board of Trade. J. B. Stoddard was called to the chair and Seymour Bell was elected secretary. Several gentlemen present made sensi ble speeches pointing out the need of such an organization here, and the great benefit the town would derive therefrom, by uniting the efforts of business men. Ed Cannon demonstrated that he meant what little he said by giving ten dollars to help the movement along in its Infancy. Some discussion of the best method to be pursued in starting off right, resulted in the appointment of Messrs.
