THE MORNING STAR. astra Satarday Jan. 93 1 84Q. We publish to-day so much of the debate as wc have received on Gen. Houston's bill for sectionizing and sell- ing the Cherokee lands. A very general interest has been excited on this subject and the remainder of the de- bate will be published so saon as received. In the bill which was prepared and introduced by Gen. Houston the ground is taken that the Cherokee otrncd the country which they possessed that they were expelled by the arms of the republic and that this country is now become the property of the republic by right of conquest in virtue of the recent expulsion of the Cherokees. The question of ownership is of more importance than at first blush might be supposed. If the Cherokee country did not belong to the Cherokecs but formed a part of the public domain of Texas then it is subjeeUgjaMtion by white citizens like any other lands of S3F on lle otner ian ' Cherokees were the tritners of the lands they possessed. then all locati...

(Here he read a treaty entered into by the Indian chiefs and Maheaan agent appointed by the Emperor Iturbide. The Emperor Iturbide was at that time the authority recognized in all Mexico. Under him these Indians were guaranteed in the rights to their lands. If they com- plied with the conditions of the contract no succeeding go- vernment had a right to set them aside. After the tyrant Iturbide was dethroned the govern- ment of the Republic not only recognized but 'guaranteed the Indians in their rights; and they lived in peace and happiness with that nation up to the time of our own re- volution. At that time it was very natural to expect that the Chcrokces would be found battling on the side of their ancient triends and allies and commissioners were sent to try and avert the impending blow. They carried with them the pledge orthc provisional government that they should be guaranteed in their rights; and on the 23d of February 1836 the commissioners on the ptrt of this 'government m...

Aboliiiomsts Outdone. A fellow' named Munro Edwards who was imprisoned at Brazoria about a year ago for counterfeiting and fed from justice to the United States ; has recently published a statement in the abolition papers' of the north that he has manumitted all his slaves in Texas. He has probably also induced those credu- bus fools to advance a large sum of money to enable him to defray the expenses of these emancipated negroes to Liberia. The arch rogue knows his cue he does not own a single slave in the Republic and will not venture back here for fear of slipping hb neck into a halter. He may go to Liberia or to some other settlement on the African coast; but instead of makingthis voyage to return Africans to their native country it will rather be to steal them from thence for we understa...
