V- COMMUNICATtD Mr. Editor Will you please to inform me through the medium of your valuable journal why there is not a regular place or house of worship in this beautiful place? 1 was a good deal surprised on landing here to find nothing of the kind existing being under the impression from report that there was such an edifice; and this impression was one of the inducements which brought mc lure. For the benefit of good society it is as necessary to have a place of public worship as it is to have a eom-mander-in-ofciefto a large army. It not only unites the citizens at large as one family but it has a ten- dency to improve their morals. It also encourages the stranger and emigrant to locate in its icinity. At present the want of such society rather tends to drive them away. Citizens of Corpus Christi arc you not aware that the erection of such an edifice w ottld be to your mutual benefit? It would not only enhance the val ue of your property but you would find in the end that it wou...

A detachment had also posted themselves at the mouth of the river and overhauled every vessel that pre- sented herself not even respecting their own Gov- ernment flag. The citizens of Tampico were said to have expressed their determination to hold the city at all risks and were anxiously expecting aid though from what quarter is not stated. CORPUS CHRISTI SATURDAY DECEMBER 10. Courtis Ciiristi. Those who have recently arrived here from the more Northerly parts of the Union are enraptured with the location and all the natural ad- vantages we possess. They say it is bound to be a place a great place and that the attention of business men is being directed here from all points- Wo can readily believe this for we seldom open a paper from any place which has not in its columns something relating to Corpus Christi and it is gcneially put in in such manner as to show the importance they attach to it. office laws have been extended to California and a monthly line of small steamers have been required to stop to deliver and take the mail at San Diego Mon- terey and San Francisco. The President trusts that Congress will at this ses- sion adjust the only domestic question which seriously threatens or prdlably ever can threaten to disturb the harmony and successful operation of our system. He says it is fortunate for the peace nnd harmony of the Union that this question is in its nature tempora- ry and can only continue for the brief period which will intervene beforo California and New Mexico may be admitted as States into the Union. From the lide of population now (lowing into them it is highly probable this soon will be. He urgently recommends that the line of compromise should extend on the par- allel of thirty-six thirty from the eastern boundary of Texas to the Pacific Ocean. Adjustment also might be made By referring the whole subject to the Judiciary. Cpngrcss is earnestly in...

The Cholera at .New Yobk. There have been some additional cases of cholera at Staten Island New York and four more deaths. Thus .far it has not appeared in the city and though some of the papers are even denying the existence of the disease yet there seems to bo no doubt tjiat it is the real Asiatic cholera. It appears the disease did not exist at Havre from which port the vessel sailed but this was also the case at the port from whence the vessel departed that introduced it into Canada in 1833. The fact therefore affords no argument ag.iinst the genuineness of the discas; particularly as there arc various instances where it has broken out on board of vessels at sea without any appa- rent cause. The disease is and always lias been a mysteri- ous one in its movements and operation. Thus far on this its second appearance in Kurupe it seems to have extended itself with much less rapidity than on the Conner occasion and to have been less fatal in its attacks and to yield with much great...
