PAGE I f. ■I' Tigers Upset Buffs by Karla Wallace Tuesday evening, the Smithville Tiger Varsity hosted the Giddings Buff- aloes and grabbed their first district win of the season. By a score of 42-37, Dwight Stockton's Tigers brought their dis- trict record to 1-4. Maintaining a steady shot precentile, the Tigers finally downed the Buffs in the fourth quarter. Smithville made 36% of their field goals compared to a mere 8% completed in the fourth by Giddings. The game was a close one, and proved to be a crowd-pleaser. Gume Garcia made the opening points of the game with a two-point jump shot. By inches, the Buffa- loes moved ahead of the Tigers. Wade Medlin tied the score up, 8-8, but Giddings sunk two more and ended the first quart- er with a four-point lead, 12-8. Second quarter was a repeat of the first. Henderson finally hit three straight bank shots and Weimar never seriously threatened again. Bastrop took it* 17-10 first quarter lead and extended it to .14-23 at the intermission. In the third quarter the Bearettes out scored and outrehounded the Wildcats 20 8 and 9-1, respectively. Bastrop garnered its points by connecting on an amazing ten of fifteen field goal tries. Bastrop's Henderson finished a string of ten unanswered points with a short bank shot early in the final stanza. Bas trop had its biggest lead of the night at 56-31.
