(city council) Item #4 dealt with the Sachse Sentinel. Council- man Quain charged that he felt the publication had begun to have political undersurrents. This accu- sation stemed from an inci- dent several months passed at which time the Sachse Sentinel declined to print an article submitted by Mr. Quain. The article was a memorial to the late Mayor Herring and was unsigned. Joe Stone, chair- man or the communications committee of the C.B.S. (publishers of the Sachse Sentinel) explained the newspaper's position con- cerning unsigned citizen"s comments and said that Mr. Quain's article would have been printed had he been willing to cut it down in length and sign it. As originally submitted it would have taken 3/4 of a page in the paper. Because of the foregoing incident, Councilman Roan moved that the organization C.B.S. could no longer use the City Hall free of charge for their meetings. This drew a protest from a citi- zen, Major JoAnne Smith, who said she felt this move would puni...

COUNCIL MEETING AUGUST 23 The City Council met in regular session on Aug. 23 with all members present. The first item dealt with city water, sewer and an - nexation of properties on the East end of Sachse Rd. Citizen, Joe Stone reque- sted that the City "pick back up" on the proceed- ings to install the water line since he couldn't ar- ouse enough interest to have it privately installed. Once again Mrs. Hooker questioned the difference in cost between a 4" line opposed to a 6" line. Mr. Stone again advised the Council that the State Board of Insurance does not recognize anything under 6" in diameter for water mains. Bob Shawn also interjected that any- one wishing to develope land beyond these eight residences in question could tie on to the line if it is at least 4" and this would result in poor water s upply. Mr.Quain assured Mr. Stone there would also be fireplugs installed on this line. Mr. Quain then made the motion to start procee- dings for annexations and begin installation ...

FIRE MARSHAL The guest speaker was JOHN BEMENT - VISITS DON'T YOU QUIT When things go wrong, as they some- times will, When the road you're trudging seems all uphill, When the funds are low and the debts are high, And you want to smile, but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit— Rest if you must, but don't you quit. Life is queer with its twists and turns, As every one of us sometimes learns, And many a fellow turns about When he might have won had he stuck it out. Don't give up though the pace seems slow— You may succeed with another blow.
