Later (torn Mexico. By the arrival this morning of tho steamship Alabama Capt. It w. Foster from Vera Cruz whence sho sailed on tho U3d inst. rc;havcjpaper3 from that place to 'thattlatc and from the city of Mex- ico to the 2Uth- "We learn from ono of our correspond- ents in tho city of Mexico that tho senate has refused to sanction the modifications in the tariff made by tho Chamber of Deputies by which modifications the '"prohibitions" were removed. The Tehuantcpcc grant to Gurny has been annulled in both Houses by a large majority and a motion has been made to impeach Lncunza for having negotiated such a treaty. Our correspondent repre- sents that the President is very much mortified at this result as ho was sincere- ly anxious that the treaty should be rati- fied. Ex President Pedraza died in the city 'of Mexico about tho 15th int. lie had been suffering with a long and painful ill- ness. The Mexican Congress adjourned on ;the 2.1th inst. HEWS FROMJJALIFORNIA. The Secret Expedition. For many flays vague rumors have been circulating in the community in regard to a certain "nccrct expedition being planned in this city for the purpose of revolutionizing Lower California the alleged hero be- ing General Joseph C. Morchead Quar- termaster General of this State. These reports have at length taken shape a grave- charge has been preferred against General Morchead by Governor McDou- igal in a communication to the Legislature to the effect that this otliccr has left the -State under circumstances of a criminal nature that previous to his departure 'he sold a portion of the arms of the State to the house of Baker Otis & Co. of this 'city and has appropriated the proceeds 'to his own use ; and the Governor asks that he he empowered to offer rewards and employ extraordinary means to secure his arrest.
