THE BELTON INDEPENDENT. * Cáptala Fort's Below will be fuund a report of Japt. Ford's. It contain* matter* of mpoitance to the frontier, and w'id oubtless have been published ere his, had the copy intended for the Governor reached its destination.. Cspt Ford is of opinion th.it the miou of the different tribes of the Romanches ib undoubtedly true, and thai they will depredate upon the border settlements this fall and win* ter, yet he docs not believe they will make a descent upon tho frontier in large bodies. They will, probably, come down iu small bands and steal and murder as before. The rumor that a force of TOO or 800 Indians is embodied and ready to move against the whiten, he coii- sieves to be entirely unfounded, and bud its origin front the report ofcapt. Pope's spies being misconstrued or falsely colured. At the same time he feels sure that the frontier íb not safe, and has done all in his power to Íjive it protection, and is still labor* ng to promote that great end. In th...
