Page 2The BrandMonday February 11 1985 oped I'm sick of cold weather. I know not everyone shares my views but spr- ing can't get here too fast for me. With Ground Hog's Day barely behind us and a predicted six weeks of winter still in store I've got a classic case of the mid-winter blues. The cure? Sun instead of clouds balmy breezes as opposed to sub zero wind chill factors-SPRING But with little chance of changing the inevitable I enjoy dwelling on how miserable I am for the time being and focusing on some of the factors that inspire this feeling 1 Seeing my own breath in unexpected places-like our living room bedroom bathroom etc . for example It's not the kind of thing that grows on a person even after trying it several times 2 People telling me. "You don t haw it so bad you ought to live up North Frankly. The BrandMonday February 11 1985Page 5 Cowboys roar past Huskies Lenard Brooks and Greg Way paced the Hardtn-Simmons men's basketball team with 18 and 17 points respectively as the Cowboys stunned the Houston Baptist University Huskies 74-61 last Saturday before a Homecom- ing day packed house In the Mabee Complex However the real surprise (or the Cowboys came from Alex Harris. Harris came off the bench when starter Byron Strickland got in foul trouble and poured In 12 points eight coming from the free throw line down the stretch. Harris said "I saw the openings and thought Why not?" "Besides their worst defensive player was playing me." Another reason for Harris' outstanding play was Coach Dick Danford's four-corner offense. Danford runs the four-corners with the intent to score and when Harris drove the middle HBU players were having to hack him to keep him from getting the easy layups. Harris was a key as he hit 8-of-ll free throws. The Cowboys jumped out to an early 4-0 lead on ...

oped 2The BrandMonday February 1 8 . 1985 Contrary to popular belief some people don't celebrate Valentine's Day with candy hearts roses or a box of chocolates In fact to some people Valentines's Day was just another Thursday on the calendar But to the rest of us The 99.9 percent of the population who do hold high th significance of Feb. 14 Valentine's Day would not be omitted from the calendar for anything. If these people stopped to think however about what they did on Valentine's Day or what they had hoped to do many would finally have to admit that they abused the rites of St. Valentine's Day. Yes It's sad but true; some people used Valentine's Day for their own gain while others hoped the magic of the occasion would serve as a cure all for their love problems A girl I know actually had the audacity to tell me that she was waiting until after Valentine's Day to break up with her boyfriend because "He might be get- ting me something really nice." You guessed It March 8-16 has been set aside this year for the ushering out of "Old Man Winter" by the best friend of all college students Spring Break. Although spring will not officially begin until after school resumes most students will have no objection in celebrating the changing of the seasons a little prematurely and as far away from the "40 Acres" as possible. Before that mid-semester break arrives however I would like to express some concerns that could possibly affect everyone who will take part in this an- nual observance. It's a good idea to get a tune-up andor a new set of tires on '"ole reliable" to insure one's speedy departure out of town. All to often In years past I've witnessed the disappointment and gri...

Palmer McCown director of Religious Activites at HSU said. "This year we are excited to have the second highest number of students from any campus in the state. We have considerably more students Involved than several schools that are larger than ours." In the past three years we have sent the third largest group and this year's number is greater than ever before. Of the three overseas positions HSU students are filling two.
