WANDIN YALLOCK. [Newspaper Article] — Healesville Guardian and Yarra Glen Guardian — 10 September 1898

WANDIN YALLOCK. (From our own Correspondent.) The Methodist Free Church Mis sionary anniversary was celebrated on Sunday, Aug. 28, when Rev. J. Rich ards, of Healesville, preached two excellent sermons to splendid congre gations. On AMonday evening the annual missionary meeting was held, ably presided over by Mr. J. II. M'Comb, of Lilydale, and interesting addresses were given by the Revs. J. Richards and H. Wallace. The report presented by the Rev. J. Birmingham indicated progress in mission work. The choir efficiently rendered selections of music, and the anniversary was in every respect successful. This was the t first visit paid by the Rev. J. Richards to Wandin Yallock, but there is such universal appreciation of his services that he will be always accorded a most hearty reception, The fine. weather has enabled the horticulturists to make .satisfactory progress with their work, and , the gardens are looking 'ell, with every prospect of a good season; Enquiries are already being...

WONDERFUL INVENTION. [Newspaper Article] — Healesville Guardian and Yarra Glen Guardian — 10 September 1898

r WONDERFUL INVENTION, The following appears in the "Hawk" : Apropos of Atlantic steamers I saw at a tai lor's who is also a shipping agent, a won derful invention for preventing collisions at sea. The motive power is electricity. A small plate, not larger than a cheese plate a fixed at the side of the vessel within two miles immediately causes a bell to sound, and an indicating arrow shows the direction from whence tt approaches. The idea, of course, is that waves of sound are carried more quickly by water than air, and if the invention can be perfected, the torpedo boat will be rendered useless. In the tentative experiments that have been made on the Thames the indicator has worked perfectly.

Which wilt thou be, my beautiful child ?" Beautiful child i in my garden bowers, Friend of the butterflies, birds, and flowers, Pure as the sparkling crystalline stream, Jewels of truth in thy fairy eyes beam.
