GOSSIP. (FRENCH AND ENGLISH SOURCES.) [Newspaper Article] — Queensland Figaro and Punch — 4 July 1885

GOSSIP. (FBENCH AND ENGLISH SOURCES.) There has been much talk, as to whether the Royal family are spiritualists. People tell stories about the Queen, and they know that the Princess Louise has been at seances. They also recall; the story of; the Duke of Albany's death-warning from his sister Princess Alice. They put down the whole Royal family/therefore, as spiritualists. So far as this be lief spread that Sir Henry Ponsonby has been " com manded" to deny it. He does not quite deny it entirely. He only says that the Royal family are not believers in Mr. Eglinton's spiritualism. Mr. A. Yorke, the late Equerry to the Duke of Albany, has j also been called upon to give hie testimony, and' says that he is in a position to declare that His Royal Highness never attended a seance with Mr. Eglinton, or presented him with a slate. The inference drawn by the spiritualists from this correspondence is that the Queen and several of her children are.believers in communications between the next w...

The manager is Mr. Jj. Diamonds with lustre bright enough to make the very stars envitius, gold and silver galore, worked up into earings, brooches, etc., of the newest fashions and the Quaintest designs. Press Manoeuvres. [Newspaper Article] — Queensland Figaro and Punch — 4 July 1885

Press Mano&uYres. In an article I published in last week's Figabo, under the heading, '* Railway Stew at Maryborough," and in which I gave " A Page of Maryborough History/' I detailed the part I took (when reporting a meeting organised to crush the Maryborough Chronicle, which X represented) in influencing the meeting against its own resolutions. I related how, inspired by the generous juice of the grape I had imbibed, over victorious billiards, at the expense of A. H. Wilson, of the sawmills, I orated to suclj effect, that the meeting carried me out in triumph and continued to ask my assistance in getting through a list of impromptu toasts, completely forgetting to pass its boycott-the-O/irojwcJe resolu tions. An inquisitive correspondent writes to me in this strain :-r " Look here, Fig, If you did all this, you. know, and got whooped out in. triumph and refreshed till further orders at the Royal Hotel, how, in the name of Caxton ! did you get your report out for the paper ...

The Muster at Ballajoie. (Continued from June "Punch.") A SWEET DREAM. [Newspaper Article] — Queensland Figaro and Punch — 4 July 1885

The Master at Ballajoie. (Continued from June " Punch."} A SWEET DBEAM. * Well, well," said I, as I settled myself and ten derly rubbed my burnt part, " if I always could dream like that, it would be as good as living two lives, and if the wide-awake one only ends as well as the dreaming one, my end would be more peaceful than one end is now, and chance it." Then I gasped a time or two, yawned, and soon I was on my travels once more. This time, Pat and I were seated round a splendid camp fire; a luxurious carpet-snake was sizzling on the coals. An old nigger and his lovely gin and two scrumptious picaninnieB sat around. We had accepted an invitation from the hospitable old savage, and had partaken pretty freely of the meal set before us. It puzzled us greatly to gueSs what it was; but we were hungry, and, being sharp set, not inclined to be critical; so we eat the strange food and pronounced it real good, when, all of a sud* den, the old warrior laid down his bone and com menced to ...
