COUNTRY MINING AND GENERAL NEWS. --"V--: Mr. Adara Johns has returned, and Mr. Lifctlefield has received in- structions to again work his tin claims. Great complaints are being made by miners that they cannot get their ore carted to Southport. At present there are about 80 tons of silver lead and 15 of tin ore ready, yet the carters will not take it down as back loadiug afc a fair price. Tenders are being called for tun- nelling the Mount Wells property. The Pioneer Tin Company's claim afc Snadden's Creek is yielding very good stream tin. Over 250. tons of washdirfc is stacked awaiting rain. A splendid deposit of ruby tin was found on the Company's property by the manager last week. Mr. Surveyor Hingston is camped afc the M'Kinlay bend. It is time a stop was put to the sweating of horses which has been carried on in this neighborhood for some time past. Mr. Littleficld, of No. 2 tin minc has two horses which do not stray, but when wanted the other day. they were not to be found, so ...

Palmerston Circuit Court. TUESDAY, 11TH SEPTEMBER, 1882. (Before G. H. MMinn, S.M., and jury of six.) Mr. J. G, Knight acted as Crown Prosecutor. Mr. F. C. Ward (in the absence of Mr. Whitelaw) officiated as : Clerk of Arraigns. LARCENY.-The first case before the .Court was that of an aboriginal named Johnny who was charged with larceny at the Shackle in July last. His Honor at once - discharged the defendant, explaining to him that liad he not given up. the horse previous to Iiis arrest he would have found liiinself in a very different position. FALSE PRETENCES.-Arthur Wilson was charged with unlawfully obtaining board and lodging to the amount of £5 together with certain moneys of the value and amount of £5, with intent to defraud. Prisoner pleaded " Not Guilty." After the Jury had been sworn in the Crown Prosecutor proceeded to open the case for the Crown by a few remarks as to the nature of the crime committed by the prisoner, and quoted one or two legal authorities in substanti...
