REFRACTORY SEAMEN. The frequency of cases of insubordina- tion on board merchant vessels trading to these Colonies, and the indifference of the paid Police Magistrates in Sydney to the interests of parties who have had occasion to bring these cases under their conside ration, serve to strengthen an evil which threatens the destruction of the commer cial interests of the Colony— a circumstance which has for some time past been viewed     with the greatest alarm by all parties con- cerned in this highly important subject. The absolute necessity has at length sug- gested itself, that the merchants and other influential persons of this Port and London, do addreas a memorial to the Secretary at Lloyds, setting forth the annoyances and danger to which the commercial and ship ping interests of the Colony are exposed, and praying their interference with the British Legislature on this head. XAUNCESTOW', V.D.Lilnb,Situbday, March 14, 1835 Our limitslasl iveek would not allow us to Hate the observations of Hi» Excel lency to the Deputation, respecting the reservation of land for the purpose of forming Wet Docks. The quantity pro mised, ten aerei, being considered much too (mail for the purpose, it was named to His Excellency by the Gentlemen, who were assured in reply by His Excellency, that auch quantity was named in the Se cretary's letter as the smallest possible quantity that could be required, but that any greater portion which might be found necessary, should be appropriated. The Governor could not say more. We re recommend, rather than even run the risk of cramping the public accommodation, and to provide liberally for the increase of , commerce, to reserve the whole Swamp.! Colonial Secretary' t Office, March 3, 1835, J|IS Excellency the Lieutenant Gover nor is pleased to direct that the fol lowing Notice of the general objects of a proposed Act which is about to be laid before the Legislative Council, to be en titled ' An Act to authorise the appoint ment of Cqmmiuiovcrs of the Supreme Court, and to define the -powert of tuch Commiisionert,' be published for general information.
