THE CURRENCY QUESTION. [Newspaper Article] — The Grenfell Record and Lachlan District Advertiser — 29 April 1876

THE CURRENCY QUESTION. A Danbury man was looking at his yard on Thursday afternoon. He was looking in such a way as to easily attract the attention of any neighbour who might have a lot of unemployed time on hand. Such a party pretty soon joined the observer, and immediately took an absorbing interest in the contemplated improvement. From this subject they rapidly drifted into financc. ' Pretty tough times,' observed the neighbour, ' Yes, they are that, an' it'll be tougher before we're over it, I imagine,' was the answer. They were both sitting on a sawhorse, under an apple tree, near thb baok-door, when tho conversation commenced. The owner of the premises -was chewing a bit of straw, and the neighbour was mechanically pulling tops from the plantain in reach. ' What do you think of this money question which has got into politics this year!' inquired the neighbour. 'I think it will be set tled one way or the other before another presi dential election is over, 'replied the owner. '...

"AT THE CORNER." [Newspaper Article] — The Grenfell Record and Lachlan District Advertiser — 29 April 1876

'AT THE CORNER.' (Contributed .) The hardworkecl Government official) as eSis tent ill every country, is, according to his own showing, an individual much to be pitied, and one whose passage through this '' vale of tears' is almost choked with thorns. There is the vast amount of work to be performed, necessitating the frequent burning of ' the midnight oil the valuable time consumed by importunate inquirers on frivolous subjects ; the want of regard on the part of the general public, who expect nun to be a tixture m ins office at their beck and call ; and many other things which conspire to make him the most illusecl of illused ones. Yet in spite of all this manifest illusage people, may be found who do not hesitate°to assert that he does not pay that attention to the duties of his office lie should, that his occasional absence from his post throws his work into arrears and inconveniences them, that his fre quent trips into the country and temporary appointment of a substitute are m...
