The Earthquake which was felt at Darwin and other places in the Nor- thern Territory on Friday was rec- orded by the seismograph at Adel- aide Observatory. The earthquake occurred 1050 miles north of Adel- aide. The centre of the disturbance was probably beneath the sea, 200 miles north of Darwin.

There was a sensation in racing circles when the Stewards disquali- fied Mervyn Wells for 12 months Mr Wells is the owner of Wedding March, the winner of the Hurdles yesterday and favorite for the Steeple today. The disqualification was the result of an enquiry into the running of Menisahib, in the Hunt hurdles, the Stewards were of the opinion that the horse was not rid den to win.

The disaster oc- curred during church service time and the explosion shattered, every window in Gracow churches causing panics among the congregations. Similar panics occurred, in hospitals many patie/nts running out in the be Hief that the trouble was due to an earthquake. Fort Witkowice, located nearby, was demolished. Fortunately only 40,000 kilograms (about 40 tons) of powder out of 133,000 kilograms exploded.
