To Shift the Station. [Newspaper Article] — The Cumberland Free Press — 22 June 1895

To Shift the Station. The project of shifting the Granville railway station has been revived of late ; and we have it on good authority that the work will probably be entered on before long. The alteration, no doubt, is related to tue unarea out more use ful work of opening Repairing Shops (to which we nave adverted elsewhere). The station, is to be moved to a posi tion beyond the overhead bridge, and almost exactly at the junction.

The Post Office. [Newspaper Article] — The Cumberland Free Press — 22 June 1895

The Post Office. ' | Residents are dissatisfied with' the miserable quarters with which the post and telegraph officials have to bo con tent at present. From an inde pendent- source — and one in no way connected with either depart-. menL — comes me statement inat in ? wet weather the damp literally runB down each wall of the single room ill . . which the business— so important to the town — is carried on. Worse than all, even, there are no conveniences about the place at all. As Mr. Andrews is dissatisfied with the occupancy of his corner (by hoodlums, sometimes — of an evening) he might if approached allow the Government to put up a decent looking post and telegraph office oppo site Gormley's. Fora ' consideration ' the Government might perhaps secure the corner. The Government could hardly do better. At any rate — to leave that aspect of the matter — Mr. Andrews is taking steps to shift tbe hoodlum nuisance ; for he is erecting a paling fence to secure the privacy of the corner. T...

Improvements. [Newspaper Article] — The Cumberland Free Press — 22 June 1895

Improvements. In this line things are fairly lively, as we notice that a few houses- are being erected — one by Mr. J. Downey, which will doubtless improve the appearance of the town. It is of brick, of a very pretty design, and situated in the maiu street. In looking around tne fac tories so notably known as the Tanneries, it can be noticed that business is fairly active, as upwards of seventy hands are employed. We also notice that a couple of these tanners are just verging into machinery, and another has only quite recently made a start on his own ac count.
