A FILTHY PRACTICE. [Newspaper Article] — Forbes Advocate — 8 December 1911

A FILTHY PRACTICE We have been informed by the police' oi! the: action of some hoodlum in altering the names of business men appearing on fences about the town, the object being, to effect the alteration so as to give the name an objectionable;- aiid, if possible,-wa liltliy application. . The utter stupidity and wrong of such a trick is at once apparent to any but the contemptible hoodlum responsible for it. A filthy word spoken ■ may miss 'the public ear—a filthy word written up in a public place cannot fail: to catch the public eye. It,is to be hoped that the very filthy .person (man or boy) who does this sort of..thing will be caught, in which case his punish-' ment is pretty sure to fit the crime. .

HOTELS AND EARLY CLOSING. [Newspaper Article] — Forbes Advocate — 8 December 1911

HOTELS AND EARLY CLOSING. A petition has been in circulation locally against a*proposal to tr'e^t the liotelg Giicihe early closing priiiciple,1 -7-close therii like shops at 6 o'cibck ordinary nights, and 9 o'clock Satur-' days: The petition will, .without doubt, be extensively signed, but such a proposal as it is meant' to counteract is surely not within the sphere of practical politics—not yet, at any rate. The land would simply team with law-breakers if ever such an enactment were made.

THAT RAILWAY MEETING. [Newspaper Article] — Forbes Advocate — 8 December 1911

v ; THAT:: RAILWAY MEETING. The Railway League convenes - a meeting for Saturday afternoon next; at 3.30 o'clock, to consider the pro-: posed line from Eugowra to Forbes. This meeting has twice fallen through for want of attendance, but we feel sure that the reproach will end on Saturday, when there should be such an attendance as will tax the holding capacity of the council chambers, town hall. The 'line from Bu gowra to Forbes .is one of the vital links in the future of this town, and the; sentiment of self-interest, if not, patriotism, should secure overflowing' meetings'whenever the rally is made.
