"Councils will readily, co-operate in cultural development; neveirtheless, first things should come first. Local Governinent has been urging for years that a substantial allocation be made from the Petrol Tax for Local Government Roads, but there would appear to be. little prospect of .any thing being offered to Councils be yond the subsidies :for water supply; sewerage ")and electricity. ACCIDENTS 1 Despite /the large amount of traf fic on the roads during Easter, no traffic accidents occurred 'in this district. No doubt this was largely' due to the activities of the Kiama Police Who concenrated on the appre hension of traffic offenders and reaped' a large harvest"" On Thursday, 3rd inst., Ellis Jones, of Jamberoo, injured liis' back when the bar with which lihe was working at the Comnissio.ner's quarry, Bombo, slipped. He was conveyed by Ambulance to his home. John McCabe, of' Toolijooa, fell and dislocated his left arm on .2nd inst. He was conveyed by ambulanlce' to the Kiama. District Hospital. The same day Allan Snelling r e ceived head injuries when he fell on a stone at Kiama Central School. B:e was taken home by Ambulance. On Sunday last Neville Edward Wright, of Belmore Road, Punch bowl, severely gashed his left knee with an axe while camping at Minna murra. SCHOOL NOTES [ '*" BY "PREFECT" *- Arrangements have now been com pleted for Winter Sports. Captains of Houses are Flinder's (1946 Chainm pion House), Matt Graham and Dawn Woods; Bass, Barry'Richardson and Hazel Sproule; Dunstan, Ted Scott and Alma Sheather; Kendall, Don Swan and Claire Bloomfield. Mr. A. 3J. Lee, B.A., senior staff inspector, is expected to visit the School this term. It is hoped' that representations, for a kindei'garten class and other needs will be fay ourably received by him. Tlhere is much activity throughout the School for the coming Juvenile Ball on Friday, 18th April. Many new costumes will be seen this year, and there are many more sets illus trative of stories and current affairs. Prifits from this year's Ball will be lairgely used to establish a reference library, a service that is badly need ed at Kiama Central.

FAREWELL Recently a very happy afternoon was. spent at the honie of Mr. and Mirs. E. G. Thatcher, when , several of her friends gathered to say fare well to Mrs.. Kelly, of. Bronte, who hias been living in Kianma, and at Werri Beach foil s6me ,two years. Mrs. Kelly has been an enthusi astic worker for the Red Cross. and C.W.A. both at Kiama and Gerrin- gong. Occasion was also taken to fare well a friend of Mrs. Thatcher, Mrs. Lennon, of Wollongong, who left last week with her husband and fam iiy, to reside at Fiji. Both ladies Were presented with 'shouldeir sprays and Mrs. Kelly: with a' basket of flowers. On behalf of those present'- Mrs. Thatcher. wish ed them fairewell and all the best .or the future.. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mrs. Thatcher for making her home available and for providing such a nice afternon tea.
