WARRANDYTE AS A HOLIDAY RESORT. [Newspaper Article] — Heidelberg News and Greensborough and Diamond Creek Chronicle — 10 January 1914

WrARR4AND-rTE AS 4 HOLIDAY RESORT. At Warrandyte during the Christmas aud New Year holidays, there was a record influx of visitors, and Mr R. Weekes' line of coaches from Heidelberg were packed with passengers on almost .every occasion. Fishing. picnicking, and camping along the delightfully pier ures que bends of the River Yarra proved the chief attracttions, and Wmarrandyte would become a favorite resort if it was more mecessible. The Boxing Day sports meeting turned out something in the nature of a fiasco. Owing to the paI1uity oE pulblicity given the flxture, the fields i-ere ridiculously small, and more thaun two runuers seldom started in any healt, whliilst" walkovers" were frequent. There appeared to be little regulation of the events, and the competitors did pretty wvell as, they liked. The spectators were all at sea as to what was taking place, no programmes being provided or any other indication of the races under de cision. Therefore, it is impossible to give any details ...
