BUSH FIRES. Since tbe beginning of tbe year (several fires have been in progress around Gilgandr.i, but, luckily by the exertions of the residents ha«e been extinguished. Owing to tbe dry ness of the vegetation a fire is easily started and travels with great rapidity and residents of the district are iu hourly fear of having to fight the flames. At Ktekabil (Mr. McPherson's) a ' fire played havoc with grass and fences ' over a distanoe of nine wiles. It tra velled through Mr Brairsto's and Mr. Fallon's properties homing a large quantity of grass and miles of fencing. A fire al«e broke on Mr. Evan's settlement lease and passed on to Mr. Busby's holding (Manilla) on which i: it said some 1,400 or 1,500 acres of grass were destroyed.
