DESPERATE ENCOUNTER WITH A SEA MONSTER. [Newspaper Article] — Reporter and Illawarra Journal — 17 August 1887
DESPERATE ENCOUNITE WITHE A SEA MON~3TE,. A DImvR named QuintrOee halns had a remark able fight with a formiditlo fish cnlled the boultous or boudro, a kind of shark which infests the Breton coast at Douarncnez. Quintreeo's own report of this terrible sub marline encountear roads like a stanza from Schiller's famous poemonl, or a pageo from one of Julcs Verno's romances. The diver, an old salt, was employed by the Government, and in pursuit of his idaily labour duly descended, in a diving apparatus, offl the DIouarnenez Pier for tihe purpose of l]aying the foundation of an addition to that struc ture. Whlilo lie was at the bottom of tihe sea, tihe mn who were working thl air puimp in the pontoon boat above wlero suddenly frightened by feeling the alarm signal, They instantly pulled up, and br'ought a large boultous nearly Sft lollng to the slurface. IRELAND. [Newspaper Article] — Reporter and Illawarra Journal — 17 August 1887
IR ELAND, Tuie following contains tihe seqtul of a case, the earlier part of (borrowed from a homeo iournal) was reprinted in our last : Dublin, Junue 15. Tile theory now stated to account for the mirder of IHurlsy, tihe farml servant, at ally. cullan, near Farranfore, on Monday night presents it in a new light, as not altogtlherr an act of violence, but rather a viidication of the moral law by the virtuous young Imen 'of the district, the relations betweemn Hurley and nMrs. Burke being such that pious feel. ings wero shocked and outragmed. This is substantially the view of the crime whichI is deliberately put forward. The story is that about 12 months ago Ilurley was employed by the late Michael Burklo, husband of Mrs. Burkle, as a farm labourer. BIurkle hold a farm on the property of Lord Kenumare, The deceased boarded and slept in the house, and after he had been a considerable title at the place thle lato Michael Bulrke is said to have complained of too much familiarity between ...
