THE SUBBO "DISTRICT TROTTING AND PONY RACING CLUB. [Newspaper Article] — The Dubbo Liberal and Macquarie Advocate — 3 January 1894

THE DUBBO DISTRICT TROTTING AND PONY RACING CLUB. Although the weather yesterday was rather too hot for racing, a fair number of people put in an appearance to witness the above club's meeting. The hon. secretary   Mr. G. A. Ferguson, had everything in readiness for a good day's sport, and no complaints or protests were entered. The different events were keenly contested, and excepting a false start in the Miniature Handicap, which had to be run over again the starting by Mr. L. Tibbitts was very fair. The meeting, although a most enjoyable one, was not a success financially to the club, but if the same amount of energy is displayed by its hon. secretary at a future date, to make pony racing a success in Dubbo it is to be hoped that pony trainers and the general public will give the club that support which it deserves. Mr. E. P. Nowland acted as judge. The results were: OPENING HANDICAP of £5 (14.2) 6 furlongs. Mr. T. Beahan's c m Pocahontas, aged, 8st 3lb (W. Beahan) ....

MR. O. tf. UEID AT HARRANDSRA. Ma. 6. H. Kbh>, M.P., leader of the Opposition, addressed a large meeting at {iurudera on Wednesday. He spoke at length upon the unemployed difficulty, which he ascribed to the sudden stoppage of public works and the inability of private industries to atworb tbe surplus labour thus created. He characterised the utterly wrong and sudden stoppage of works, and said there were «ooresof works that would pay well and would have employed u deal of labour. Where practicable, he would giro the unemployed in the locality of a oertain work preference over new-comers. Referring to the aotioB of tbe Government in proroguing Parliament, hestigmatised them as "a band of politioal larrikins," inasmuch as from the end of last year till Parliament met again the money required to pay wages and salaried oould not be paid according to law. Political. [Newspaper Article] — The Dubbo Liberal and Macquarie Advocate — 6 January 1894

Political. The Ministry assert they are certain of a majority in tbe Assembly upon the meeting of Parliament. It is believed the Government rely upon certain members of the labour party who voted against them in the last division to support them in the coming session. The labour party will hold a meeting before Parliament opens to decide on their course of action. It is freely asserted that the meeting cannot be unanimous; and if a decision is arrived at to support the Government the decision will be ignored by a few members.
