St. John's Church of England. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra and Yea Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton and Acheron Express — 6 March 1908

St. John's Church of England. The storm that has been brewing for three years has burst at last. Three months back the Bishop served a notice on Rev. St. John's Church of England. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra and Yea Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton and Acheron Express — 13 March 1908

S t. John's Church of England. In connection with the position taken up by the 1Rev. E. 11. Scott, we a are informed that the church authori- g ties have instructed Mr. G. D. Leckie to move in the matter of compelling the rev. gentleman to quit the vicarage and hand over the keys of the church. This is understood to mean that court proceedings will result, when, no doubt, tihe silence will be broken and the public made aware of facts that the Press at present cannot publish. A meeting of church people was held on Monday evening last and largely attended. This augurs well for the future of the church. From the tone of the remarks of the chairman it appears good work has been accom plished during the past week. The members of the congregation are gradually being drawn together and once the church is open and a minister installed, all will be well, and, it is hoped, a respectable living assured for the new pastor. The services held at the shire hall on -Suridy:. nioring .and eyening, ....

RUFFY RAILWAY LEAGUE, A meeting was held at Ruffy. on Satur day week last, to consider railway pro posals. There was a fair attendance of district reildents. Mr. J. H. Chrystal, of Dropmore, who presided. in opening the meeting outlined the position of affairs in regard to railway proposals at the present time, and advocated the presentation of the claims of the district for a line to Seymoul over the tuffy table land to Merton or Strathbogie. A deputation from the Strathbogio Railway League was to wait on the Premier urging the construction of a line from Violet Town to Strathbogio district, but he pointed out that from a survey which had been made about 18 years ago Strathbogio would be a better served by the Ruffy route, as that P would connect them with Melbourne by a route 25 miles shorter. By the Vio et Town route the mileage to Strathbogie would be 8 120 miles but via Seynour and Ruffy it : would he only 94. Hl'had been assured by t the officials. who had been through the -1 ...
