THE THREE HOMES. [Newspaper Article] — Portland Guardian and Normanby General Advertiser — 10 September 1842

T.'IHE THIREE HIOMES.F SWhcre :s thy laome ?' I ask'd a child, Who, in the morning air, Was twining flowers most swect and wild, In garlands for her hair ; SMyhlome,' the happy heart replied, And smil'd in childish glee, Is on the sunny mountain side, Where soft winds warb!e free.' Oh, blessings fall on artless youth, And all its rosy hours, When every word is joy and truthl, And treasures live in flowers. c Where is thy home ?' I ask'd of one, Who bent with fluish ný face, To hear a warriox's tender tone, .In the wild wood's secret place; She spoke not, but her varying cheek . The tale might well impart The home of her young spirit meek, Was in a kindred heart. Ah i souls that well might soar above, To earth will fondly cling, And build their hopes on human love, That light and fragile thing. SWhere is thy home, 'thou lonely m?'an' I ask'd a pilgrim grey, Who came, with furrow'd brow and wan, Slow mnsing on his wa ; IHe paused, and with a solemn mcin, Uptumrn'd his oly eyes, 'The l...

THE BASHFUL MAN. [FROMTI rie' TOkSEN,' AN AISrIbCAN ANNSUAL.] - Lr T him who has never suffered froml the horrors of bashfulness, pass by this article. lie will find nothing with whiche he can sympathise. But he who knows the exqui site misery of a temperament whose very nature almost shuts him out from human sympathy, while it opens upon him the full sluices of laughter and ridicule, he only should read, for he only can understand, this clihapter of my sufferings. It-is but aspeci men of my life. Ex uno disco omnes. To all others it will only be a sealed fountain; and as they pass it by in the proud consci ousness of the unspeakable blessing of im pudence, let them, thank" heaven that its waters can never floi for them. As my object is but to give a specimen of the numerous contrctemlps that incessantly lbeset me, the moment I appeared in ladies' society, I shall merely speak of those that befel me at the only dinnerin Paris to which I was invited; though laden with introduc tory l...
