CRICKET. The Emancipation of the Slaves. [Newspaper Article] — Narandera Argus and Riverina Advertiser — 20 February 1894

CRICKET. The Emancipation of the Slaves. If anyone know* of some nice quiet spot. into which about -twelve young . men oonld arawl and comfortably die, they would obltg* by sending address of e.iras to the captain of the toim of 'dingle' cricketers who bad the Wmeri'y to pit themselves in eoufiict with a similar number of bensdiots in the cricket field recently. When progress was previously reported in cenneotion with the malnb, tbo single men had made 73 in the first innings, aaS the married men the miserable total of 38. With tbo game at tnat Bugs, yon cou'id hardly fiud an iudividbal, unless, porhaps a married man, who would not assent to the Shukopnariau propasition that ' a young man married is a man that's marr'd.' Bat since then things have somewhat changed, and now there are to be found people reckless enough to assert that a married man is werth two single men any day The explanation of this sudr'en change in popular opinion is brief but painful, Wnoo the fateful Wednesday ...

Carrathool. [Newspaper Article] — Narandera Argus and Riverina Advertiser — 15 January 1895

Carrathool. The weather, which has lately been hot and dry, seems to have undergone a change. Saturday and Sunday, the thermometer ranged from 102 ° to 108 ° in the shade, but to-day it is down to 86 ° and the wea ther is dull, with occasi -nal showers. . A bush ore was discovered burning fiercely on Howlong 00 Friday afternoon, but the station hands, with assistance from Carrathool, succeeded in extinguishing it, not, however, until some 700 acres had been burnt. It seems to have started within about 100 yards of Goodwin, the fisherman's camp, but he can throw no light on it, as he says he was in bed at the time. 4 At the monthly sit ing of the local police court, before Mr J. E. Pearce, P.M., the following cases were tried : Arthur Thomas, drunk and disorderly; fined 20s er 7 days. Charles Skitter v. Thomas Gowans, claim for £13 5s wages as butcher. Mr Kemp, who appeared for defendant, nrged that a butcher is nota servant within the meaning of the Masters and Servants' Act, and th...

Tubbo. [Newspaper Article] — Narandera Argus and Riverina Advertiser — 15 January 1895

Tubbo. A departure from the general rule of sta tion life occurred here tonight, in the form of a send off to Mr M'Keachie, formerly overseer of Tubbo, who is about to take the management of Dungaleer, tt station on the borders of Queensland. As soon as his pro motion and decided departure were voiced on the station, a movement was quickly put on foot by the employees to show their ap preciation of the sterling qualities of their boss, who, by the way, is not an easy task master. The employees of the Tuhbo Es tate presented Mr M'Keachie with a gold watch and trinket, as a mark of the esteem in which he is held among them. Several toasts were drank iu favor of the guest, who responded in appreciative terms. The gathering was brought to a close by the em iloyees drinking the health of Mr Duncan Sinclair, the nrerent manager of Tnbbo.

DISTRICT NEWS. Morundah. Harvest operations throughout this district will be about fiuished in a week if the weather hoUs fine. The farmers have had a rough time this season, rain falling every week (rinoe the commencement of stripping;, and 1 fear the Iosb wilt be very heavy.
