Blind Musicians. [Newspaper Article] — Healesville Guardian and Yarra Glen Advocate — 12 February 1898

The Blind Musicians, under Mr. W. W.Spicer's capable management, visited the town on Monday and gave one of their excellent entertainments. Space will not permit of a. lengthy report but we may say that considering all the performers were blind it is wan derful how well they manage. AMr. H: Forder's skill is very" remarkable and would do credit to any performer gifted with good eyesight and Miss Drum monds clear voice and Mr. Solomon's antics were greatly appreciated by the large audience. It is gretly to be regretted that we have again to notice the boorish and illnianered conduct of not only boys but those who are- old enough to know better. One would think that with blind musicians they .would have shown a little sympathy bhut, the incessant noise brought severai sharp and 'well merited rebukes from the musical con doctor. On 'Tuesday the company was to have given a concert at Yarra Glen but the town was depopulated through the fires,,and it had to be postponed.

Mr. Burgess also lost his outbuildings arid a bit of hay. There are miles and miles of fencing destroyed, and hundreds of. acres of grass as well. Some of the dairy far mers have no grass at all.'

The coming dread of tlhe Australian colonist is the apparant increase of that .dreadful complaint, Ilydatids. Some say that there is no cure for it, only by operation; but in my experience I say that the only cure is to be found by. Medicine. My son I found had a small swelling on his side, although hut little notice was taken of it until it in creased in size; and four (4) years afterwards we took hita to two (2) doctors, who wanted at once to ope rate upon him. I at first objected, but afterwards took him to the Childrenu's Hospital for operation, which was un successful. After another month he had to he operated on again, which was also unsuccessful. He lingered for about three (3) months, getting very weak. I was then advised to take him to the Iomoeopathic Hospital. The doctors there also wanted to operate upon him again; but, experiencing a doubt as to his recovery I then thought that as the doctors in both hospitals had expressed a doubt as to my son's recevery, I made up my ...
