There was up wards of 100 people trom varions parts of (ho district, und many old friends net and had a pleasant time among themselves. There were I^y different events contested during th$ day, including school children's and young men and women's. Keen rivalry was shown in tjie sawing and nail driving competition's among the ladies, there being 1Q in eaph event. OUR TELEPHONE SERVICE Stawell Said to be Neglected Traders Association Protests The monthly meeting of the com mittee of the Sniwell and District Trad' rs1 Anaocintion was held in the office of the secretary (Mr W. H, Bell) yesterday morning. The minutes nf the previous meet ing' were duly read and confirmed. The conditions of the local tele phone service was commented on by tho^e present; it being considered that it was entirely unsatisfactory, quite u number of fclic t/clrptiouoj-bB ing out of order. It was thought that the removal of the fitter who was stationed here at one-time was in a great measure responsible for the inefficiency of the service. The totally inadequate service on tbe Melbourne trunk line was also under review. With only one line to oarry tho business, calls had to be booked hours ahead, but when connected tbe conversations were hardly aud ible.
