Ruef's Playoff Predictions Favor Pirates And Orioles byDaveRuef Sports Editor As the baseball season draws to a close, the bs. will fly thick and fast, and the so-called experts will predict their pennant choices. Being a so-called expert, I will give you my fearless predictions on the upcoming playoffs. It is difficult in picking winners of playoffs or the World Series. Past records and which team has the superstars means absolutely nothing. Last year everyone picked the Big Red Machine to State Line Grocery Route 20 (Next To Kelly's) Get your beer & groceries After visiting Kelly's demolish Baltimore. But the Orioles, via the bat and glove of Brooks Robinson, disposed of Cincinati in 5 games. In the National League playoffs, I'll take the Bucs. Los Angeles and San Francisco are fighting it out in the National League West. Both teams have played very badly, and neither appears to be in winning form. The Pirates, shold be well rested for the playoffs. And the best hitt...

Penn State Boast Of Veteran Team Penn State football coach, Joe Paterno, the winningest coach in college football, boasts a veteran 1971 team. The offense is made up entirely of lettermen and sophomore halfback Buddy Ellis is the only non-letterman on the defensive unit. The lion offense is built around running backs Franco Harris and Lydell Mitchell, who Paterno calls "the best one-two punch in college football." Harris, a 225-pound fullback, and Mitchell, a 200-pound halfback, have both gained more than 1,300 yards in their two seasons at Penn State. QuarterbacMng will be John Hufnagel, a junior who took over the job when the lions were 2-3 in midseason last year and directed the team to five straight victories. Hufnagel will be backed up by sophomore Steve Joachim. Senior Glen Cole rounds out the backfield at flanker. Cole lettered last year while seeing only limited action. The offensive line has senior Bob Parsons, a converted quarterback, at tight end and junior Scott ...

You Want To Bet? Warren Predictions By Mark Warren Sports writer 1 Notre Dame 6 Texas 2 .Michigan 7 Alabama 3 Nebraska 8 Oklahoma 4 Auburn 9 L.S.U. 5 Colorado 10 Ohio State Last season was celebrated as the "Year of the Quarterback." It appears that this year's campaign will go oh to be known as the "Year of the Uncelebrated Quarterback." This year for the second season in eight years, Notre Dame is without an All-American quarterback. But quarterback or no quarterback, collegiate football's perennial winner will again find themselves at the helm. Michigan, which boasts the finest offense in the nation_. should capture both the Big Ten Championship and the Rose Bowl, and achieve the number two spot behind Notre Dame. The Nebraska Cornhuskers, defending national champions, will put their controversial crown on the line. Despite some excellent talent, Nebraska just doen't have enough to repeat. Auburn's All-American combination of Pat Sullivan and Terry Beasley should lead the...

Baughman Plans Change In MarsharPhflbSbphy by Doug Leichiter Managing Editor A change in the philosophy of the student marshal has been expressed by Robert C. Baughman, Business Manager of Behrend Campus for the upcoming year. Baughman said "The present • feeling is that students will be employed by security, but that student marshals, for example, as such, would be used only for outside events, such as directing traffic...". Baughman went on to say that at the moment one student is being employed by security, but solely for clerical purposes. Baughman emphasized that the entire concept of student marshals is up for discussion. "We don't even know that we are going to be calling them student marshals as such. We might,-we don't know." Baughman went on to say. He added, "What we are going, to do is let it grow more naturally, and it is not going to have a militaristic structure as we had last winter and spring. The structure will be much looser and more casual." Baughman part...

De. an Lane reviewed the proposals with his staff (on September 29) after speaking with representatives from the Joint Residence Council. The proposed hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 to 12 pm and Friday and Saturday from 7 pm to 2 am. Any floor will be able to work within the hours of 8 pm to 12 pm, making modifications according to the wishes of the students. Dean Lane forsees a change in residence facilities if the logistics problem can be overcome. If there is enough interest among those students not wishing to use visitation privileges, work will be done to see that special rooms are provided for them possibly in the winter term. T...
