ORCHARD l AND GARDEN ga ^ B ^ ass ^ aasasaaanai ^ sa ^ aHa [Newspaper Article] — Better Farming — 1 May 1913

ORCHARD l AND GARDEN ga ^ B ^ ass ^ aasasaaanai ^ sa ^ aHa Gean Cultivation wtth Cover Crops Probably the best system ever devised for handling orchard soils where the lay of the land will permit , is a combination of clean cultivation with cover crops . PQULTRy aKaRaBHHiM [Newspaper Article] — Better Farming — 1 May 1913

PQULTRy aKaRaBHHiM For Better Poultry The secret of successful poultry breeding is to select and cull . The breeding stock should undergo the most rigid selection , not only for type but for constitutional vigor . Unless a bird has a strong constitution it is not an economical producer . The chicks are more liable to contract disease , Those that live are not as good egg producers , nor do the birds grow and fatten with as economical gain . A good constitution is indicated by a broad , deep chest , long body , active , vigorous disposition , keen bright eyes , and broad head with a bright-colored comb and flashy plumage . Male birds should display vim and vigor . Females with long crow heads , heavy abdomens and excessive fat due to lack of exercise , should be eliminated from the breeding pens . They are rarely good producers and are always poor breeders . The bird which is first off the roost in the morning and last to go on the roost at night should be used . Above all , select a...
