In this big west and soutli western country the people gcli- f rally do things on aiirgo seal when they do undertake Vmy- thing in the way of farming. This week the News reporter visited the farm of L. H. Cow lint;, northeast of the city, and he was amazed at what he saw out there. The lirst of last May the whole section was in pasture and not a furrow turned, but Mr. Cowling started twenty-two plows at work and turned and planted six hundred acres of milo maize and kaffir corn and when this reporter visited the place a large number of men were busy in cutting and caring for the feed which has now ma tured. He has increasd the size of the paper from four to twelve pages and is getting out a highly readable paper. The people of Canyon City are patronizing him, too. Last week's issue contain ed a clipping from the Hanner in reference to the prospects of our town. The News makes the following comment: "Kandall county has now taken steps to wards building down toward your country, and if you can in duce the Hock Island to build from Graham to your place it might be that we shall be near neighbors after awhile." The gathering was in the nature of a surprise to her but never the less it was greatly enjoyed.
