Notwithstanding the ter- j urination of the war, the decline in gold and the plentiful season of the; year, all of which should tend to pro duce a material decline in all the neces saries of life, we find that all articles sold in our markets command prices which will soon be beyond the reach of the masses, who will be compelled to leave the city or find some pther source of supply. Our markets seem to be entirely controlled by hucksters, who have banded together to keep prices above a fair and just standard. gluMtUtgemK thcbsday MOBXDre, july is. Market.?The market at the Second Ward Market House yesterday morn ing was the beat of the season, the sup ply of all needful articles being much greater than for several weeks past; neither was there such a crushing jam of purchasers. We hope this is the beginning of a more satisfactory state of affairs, and that it will be no longer necessary for a man to set up all night to be in time for the morning market. The supply of vegetables yesterday was remarkably good, and the quality first rate. Prices still continue high, but the prospect is good for a change for tho better In this particular. Farmcre and residents of tho city would both be greatly benefitted if the former would more generally attend market, in pref erence to selling their produce to a class of dealers who reap all the profits, and compel our citizens to pay extrav agant prices. FRIDAY MOKIWrG, JULT .Ii. Good Order.?Yesterday was the I third day which has paused withcriit a; trial in the municipal court, During that. time not a single violation of the city ordinance? has occurred, that has come I to the knowledge of the official author- i ities. Those who violate the law, and endanger the peace of the city, havo confined their operations to the dark hours of the night, when there was no officers to take cognizance of their evil deeds. The crowd which lately throng- j ed our streets lias disappeared, and now there seemfc to be no disturbing element to disturb and mar the peace and har mony of the city, save the loafers and loungers, who are too idle and lazy to earn ah honest living, and who subsist by preying upon their more industrious neighbors.
