SIS PJBTEK AXD T COW While in Montreal I heard good gtory of Sir Peter Mijchsll, Member of Parliament from ev Brunswick, of whom I spoke in a reeenfc letter. He was an opposition member dur ing the lamentable Hfovarnment of 8ir John Mackenzie ia the last de cade, and was a constant and most uncomfortable thorn in the side of that unhappy Premier. Sir John was a conspicuous railroad magnate, and just before the opening of Par liament one winter Sir Peter called on him to induce him to paj $40 for a widow's cow that had been ran over by the cars. '"I t don't believe there's anything in ill" exclaimed the Premier peremptorily 'It'gproh ably a trumped up case, but I'll in quire and you can call to-morrpw.." The gentleman froa New Brans wick was not used to being treated so caralierly, but be pocketed it and called in the morning. "There is no justice in it We won't pay for the cow," broke in Sir John. uYou won't, won't you?" rejoined Sir Peter, with a manner quite" bouncing as that of t...

THE BONANZA KING MINE. A few days since we published the gist of a telegram from Mr. Ewing of the Bonanza King mine at Provi dence, to the effect that the company had shipped $11,000 of fine bullion for the first eight days' run. The operator in transmitting the mes sage omitted part of it, and the fact is, that instead of $11,000 the amount shipped was 11 bars, the value of which was 19,000. This is the first work of the new mill, and certainly ia a most encouraging starter. The Bonanza King Company have spent an immense amount of money in developing their mines, and to-day have undoubtedly the best mining property on the coast. The new mill was shipped by mule teams from Mo have station. Even while the lail road was building to the mines with a prospect of reaching them in a short time, yet they considered the delay of a few weeks in waiting" for the railroad would cost more than the extra amount for freight, large as it was, and with genuine mining enterprise hauled all their mac...
