It seems quite possible that an era of probing into government busi ness in Washington is about to be commenced, and if it is there are likely to be many instances of grand and petty larceny turned up that will necessitate the establishment of a government purchasing board to deal with much of the material that is bought by the million dollars worth for the use of the govern ment each year. There has just been turned up in the Bureau of Engraving and Printing a system of grafting in connection with the ink contracts that has been going on for years and has confessedly netted one official between $65,000 and $75,000.
