Nine persons out of every ten, withl a cinder or any foreign sub stance in the eye, will instantly , begin to rub the eye with one hband while hunting for his handker chiefl They may, and sometimes do, remove the offending cinder, but more frequently they rub till t the eye becomes infl:amed, bind at bandage around the head and go t to bed, This is all wrong. The better way is not to rub t the eye with the cinder in it at all, t but rub the other eye as vigorous ly as you like. Dr. Hammond, in the New York World, says: As to cigarette smoking, properly practiced and with due regard to moderation, and provided also that pure tobac co be used, I cannot see how it is more inj' rious than cigars or pipes. But no speedier method for rendering existence painful is more efficacious than to smoke cigarettes and to inhale the fumes into the lungs. By this practice a very large absorbing surface is exposed to the action of the nico tine and other poisonous products which are evolved when tobacco is burned. Our lHunting Grounds, Several weeks ago a gentlein,:;~ a residcunt of Omaha, Neb., who is very Iondl of hunting, was in this city and said that i' it were gener :ally known in the north that with in two or three hours' ride of New Orleans there are the finest hunt in, grounds in America and an albtudance of game, large and small, that thousands of northern sportsmen would spend their win ters here, if for no other reason than to enjoy the line shooting which the territory adjacent to New Orleans so amply affords.
