King celebration at Belvedere Belvedere Elementary School children remembered Martin Luther King, Jr. on the anniversary of his birth with a musical program of song and dance. Six classes of children from the first through the sixth grades sang Let There be Peace on Earth and We Shall Overcome, led by Lora Charpie, the music teacher, accompanied on the piano by Edith Dong, second grade teacher. The dance was provided by Ted Davis and the Modem City Ballet Co., an ICAP group designed to bring multi-cultural awareness to I os Angeles school children. The artists performed various dances based on Puerto Rican, Haitian and West African Techniques. TRW gets state jobs contract The state of California has awarded a contract to TRW Defense and Space Systems to train some 90 unemployed people as electronics technicians and mechanical drafters at the TRW plant in Redondo Beach. The program is specifically designed for the disabled, economically disadvantaged, minorities, women and youth. The State will be furnishing $557,110, TRW $188,330 and El Camino College, which will provide the classroom instruction, $118,363. Pay during the training period will be $4.25 an hour, which will rise to $5.25 and hour after training. The project will also offer upgrading to 90 electronic technicians and drafters now employed at TRW, To advance themselves to higher paid positions.

Sandoval to teach journalism An introductory class entitled: Mass Communications” or Journalism No. 5 will be offered this spring semester at East Los Angeles College on Tuesday evenings from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Instructor will be Alician Sandoval, (moderator/producer of KTTV’s “LET’S RAP Show”). The 3 unit survey course will look at the history of print and electronic media in American society and also focus on modern day issues affecting mass media consumers. Field trips to radio/TV stations, the L,A. Times newspaper, guest speakers and films are highlights of the class. Journalism 5 will meet in S2lOl at East L.A. Stevenson staffers complete workshop The Institute for Teachers Leadership recently provided an intensive 3-day, 15-hour integration workshop in the Stevenson Junior High School campus. This voluntary paid session is part of a project with United Teachers of Los Angeles and Cal State Fullerton. The 4 year, $lMj -million federal grant was awarded in an effort to support integration in L.A. Unified School District within the currently integrated schools.
