Marilyn Hill, a fresh- man in the Smithville High School, took the cherished first place spot- light in the 440 yard dash, with a time of :61.5 sec- onds. With her best dis- tance ever. Hill marked 35' V*" in the triple jump, and came in second only to Geneva Faison, of LaGrange, who jumped 35' 6". Carrie Sabrsula, a sen- ior, crossed the finish line of the 80 yard hurdles in second place with a time of : 11.4 seconds. A rather outstanding accomplishment was made by Sabrsula in the 440 yard relay. The relay team met with an unexpected change in their positions just two days before the district meet, and Sabrsula, who had never run in a relay...

APRIL 20. 1978 TAG Hears Report Airport Needs Repairs LAGRANGE — Officials of the Texas Aeronautics Commission conducted a public meeting here Tuesday for the purpose of discuss- ing the maintenance and develop- ment of airports within Bastrop, Fayette, and Lee Counties. The present needs of all the air- ports within the three-county areas was brought up as well as the pos- sible building of new airports, es- pecially at Bastrop, which is one of the few county seats in Texas which has none. PAGE 8 Bastrop Play Awarded By KAYJETT BASTROP- Oncc again, Bastrop's one-act play, under the direction of Mrs. Jerry Fay Wilhcm, was named as one of the winning plays at the Area Contest in San Marcos on Friday. April 14. Bastrop competed against five other plays of which three were picked; one alternate, Hallcttsvillc, with "Once Upon a Playground" and two winning plays, Marble Falls' with "Persephone" and Bastrop's, "Once Upon a Clothesline". Bastrop and Marble Falls competed at the regional contest on Wednesday, in Brenham. Awards given to Bastrop were Paula Weber and Bclynda Barron, honorable mention; Claydeen Osborn, Fori Lent/ and Donna Seidel, all-star cast; David Kuhn, best actor; and Teresa Luthe, best actress.
