i .. '' . '.'-.'' ' Noises! on the page. . . Brand changes explained by Leigh Attn Whiddon You may have noticed that The Brand has gone to yet another format. You may also have noticed a few changes in the staff box (what we journalists like to refer to as the "Masthead'1). A few administrative changes were made to accommodate everyone and to divide up the work. Rather than having one editor we went to an editorial board made up of the four section editors the business manager and myself. Hopefully with this new sys- tem we will be able to run more ef- ficiently and provide a wider range of coverage. The format is a little different be- cause we have not yet received our own equipment. Until we do The Brand will be designed using Word- Perfect 5.1. The staff would like to thank the kind folks over at the computer lab for putting up with us. We would like to include more departmental news. If any department or organization is planning activities trips lectures whatever that you Want ...

Non-Traditional Student Columnist wonders about Ann by John Carroll It has been real exciting since Texans elected a woman for governor. The first thing woman did in recorded history was to tempt man and get him in trouble. The first thing Ann Richards proposed was a lottery. Can you see any similarity? Of course it isn't all her fault. She used to be married to a lawyer and you know that had to color her outlook on life. You guys did know that the legal profession was the second oldest in the world didn't you? How about campaign promises? Ann said she was going to end discrimination in the governors office. One of her first public announcements was that she and her feminine friends were going to have a slumber party in the governors mansion. No men allowed! Sounds like sex discrimination to me. When my sister had a slumber party I learned what all of the local high school girls looked like without their makeup. I don't think the world needs to see Ann without hers. Maybe they shoul...

Column (from p. 3) else but I am about to graduate and God has yet to send me a post card in the mail with the map of life on it (I would settle for the next clue in the treasure hunt). I thought about writing I thought about the ministry I thought about teaching I thought about the monastery (if you think I am joking ask my roommate). Then finally I thought about the Bible. "Vanity said the preacher all is vanity." All is vanity all is frivolity "a chasing after the wind." And thus with the slap of a thousand years of ancient Hebrew wisdom in my face I read on through the book of Ecclesiastes. Pleasure is vain knowledge is vain work is vain life is vain and then I got to the very end. "This is the end of the matter: you have heard it all. Fear God and obey his commandments; this sums up the duty of mankind." Sports Schedules University Tennis Men and women vs. McMurry. Thursday March 14 3:00 p.m. at HSU. Men vs. Weatherford. Student Letter Student defends artist's work by Sharla Tenberg One day last week I noticed a collection of art by Professor Bob Howell in Sandefer Memorial's display case. Interested I stopped and studied the ceramic pieces placed there. The work which carried an anti-war theme disturbed me. Still I enjoyed knowing that a Hardin- Simmons professor could publicly express an unpopular opinion without worrying about administrative repercussions. I was shocked to realize that I had drawn a fau...

iV .A Registrar from page 2 as transfer work. (Studentswho have 66 hours of work may not take work at a junior college.) Remember April 1 9 is the last day to withdraw or be withdrawn from a course for the spring semester. Theater starts second season by Shawnie Maffet The HSU theater department is working to initiate a "second season" of plays. A second season would consist of two shows in the summer and one in the fall and spring in addition to Van Ellis productions. Sara Wetzel senior theater major proposed the idea for a project in her theater management class. Wetzel's goal for this project is to allow students to "work with new types of literature and plays." The second season could be directed by students or faculty who otherwise would not be able to direct. This project would enable more students to participate in theatrical productions. "The purpose is to enhance student experience (and to allow students) a chance to work with other directors" Wetzel said. This will also pr...

The Bland Hardin-Simmons University Happy April Fool's Day! April 1 1991 HSU's duck pond ducks cause campus ruckus by Richard Ruane "At HSU there seem to be three facts of life: taxes bills and duck PDA" said Dr. Geoffrey T. Sweitzholde associate professor of duck studies. Ever since the ducks came to HSU they have been involved in reproductive activities. "I really feel that duck activities should be curtailed in the public eye" said Ms. Martha K. Krepps director of Mabee dorm. "We don't let boys sit on the furniture with girls in our dorm; duck boys and girls should be subject to the same rules." The controversy over the yet undisturbed annual spring romp of Duck intimacy has been given new heat (no pun intended -well maybe just a little pun). Lately since television preacher Sister Jimmy Satowski condemned ducks co-habitating in general and HSU duck indiscretion in particular. According to Sister Satowski this particular duck behaviour is "contrary to the scriptures the teachings...

Among DADD's other activities will be to actively petition the school library to ban the book One Hundred and Fifty-Six Things to do With a Dead or Slightly Mauled Duck by Duane Simolke. "I think the book is just like totally tastless" said a spokesduck who wished not to be identified with out-of-date coloquialisms. "I don't see what's wrong with it" said senior Mallard Drake. Dam-It-Alive and well: The shocking true story by Rick Hope Officials at Hardin-Simmons may soon have to order the removal of Dam-It's gravesite from the campus due to the recent findings that indicate the former mascot is not dead after all. In an explosive new autobiography soon the arrive at the HSU bookstore Dam-It writes of how he staged his own "death" three of the HSU ducks had been brutally murdered. Dam-It reports that he was the culprit and since there was talk of capital punishment he decided to exit the scene before he was found out.
