Courtships and its Results. [Newspaper Article] — Singleton Argus — 11 August 1880

Courtships and its Results. ?News Letter. Thebb is such a thitiR as overdoing it. An instance in point will Illustrate our meaning. Mr. Booster is a wealthy "Front-street morchapt. He is a widower, and ia blessed in the possession of an only daughter—a sweet maiden of seventeen Buinmere, or thereabouts ?with oheeke whose pink is waterproof, and whose blonde beau-eatohers and switches have their natural root iv tho cuticle euvelop inpr her classic-shaped head. She is never guilty of 'fraudulent representation ; that is, hardly, but wo anticipate. Among her " mashes" —and she counts thorn by dozens—is Gue Prottyboy, a youth with Boventy-fivo dollars a month in an in surance office—an uletered high collared, square-top hatted youth who deplet'oe his monthly revenue wilb cigarettes that do not bite the tongue, at the desperate rate of a pack a day. Frightful Italian Scourge. [Newspaper Article] — Singleton Argus — 11 August 1880

Frightful Italian Scourge A correspondent of tho Lancet writes :— " Ninety-seven thousand Italians (so I pather from tho report lately issued by the Minister of Commerce and Agriculturo) are at this moment dying of Pellagra. About one-hslf of tho provinces of Itnly are deso lated by this scourge. The number of the victims represents 362 per 1000 of the total population of tho Peninsula, or 0-21 por 1000 more than tho worst cholera epidemic that ever sweptover. Franco. If wo restrict our consideration to the infected regions only, the proportion becomes etill raoro terrible, and oscillates botweon a maximum of 11-CG per 1000 in Lombardy, 11-80 per 1000 in Venctia, and a minimum of O-DO por 1000 in Lntiura. In France, in tho cholara visitation of 1834-35, tho proportion in tho infected departments only was 1012 per 1000 of the population for tho eick, and 4<73 per 1000 fqr tho ?dead. From the Mantuan Commission, appointed to inquire into tho subject, I gather that Pellagra,...
