THE SALVATION AND SKELE TON ARMIES. London has Ibee? supplied with a now sensation, anid also with a very serious source of danger to thoe public peace, in the conflicts between tho rival Salvation 'and "Skeleton" Armies. The appearance of the latter band, ivith its piratical ulmblemos and coarse parodies of Salvationist hymns, was I natural result of the reaction created amongst the lower orders in the metro. polis by thoe scandalous and painful excesses which the religious onthusiasm of "General" Booth's followers hlsis IroSlduced. The Skoloton Army, whlich was started by. roughs who have all antipathy to religion inl ally shape, has grown . to such' formidable dimensions within a couple of weeks that it has compelled the Salvationists to abandon their Sunday processions through the streets, Within the past woelc the head-quartors of " General" IBooth in the City-road was the scono of aun ex tonsive riot, in thu course of which menmbers of the opposiug forces, as well as some inoh...

VICTORIA AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY'S ANNUAL SHOW. [Newspaper Article] — Evelyn Observer, and South and East Bourke Record — 30 March 1883

VIOTORIA AORIO ULTURAL SQI0ETY'S ANNUAL SHOW. The thirtyfourth annual show of the Victoria Agricultural Society took place at Heidelberg on Thurday, 22nd inst.,, and taking it as. a whole was fairly successful. The attendance of visitors was, not up to tlhe standard of the last six or seven years, owing pro bably to the Easter holidays. The prettily situated town of Heidelberg, the valley of the Yarra, and the fine drivo out fromn Melbourne deserved a better fate ; a more interesting situa tion for a day's outing can scarcely be desired. Not only would a railway enhance the surrounding properties, but it would enable the oldest society in the colony to bag a good rovenud. The Show is a gencral one, whore horses, cattle, sheep, pigs, fowls, grain, roots, dairy produce, fruits, and lots of miscellaneous exhibits cant be seen. \Vo heard one of the visitors very cor rectly state that exhibits front "a needle to an anchor" could be sots at the Show.
