TOCUMWAL. ■ r A public meeting was lield at the Pavilion on Wednesday uiglit, un der tbe auspices of the Progress As sociation, to take matters in hand for celebrating the Declaration of Peace. The attendance was dis appointingly small. Mr W. R. Johnson occupied the chair. The chairman explained that the Progress Association had s;t the ball rolling by appointing a sub; committee to draw up a programme of events, which the meeting would be_asked to consider that night. Any other suggestions made would receive consideration. YOUTHS IN TROUBLE. Two youths, Robert Smith and Telford Planck, residents of Cob ram, were proceeded against on a charge of having misappropriated an axe, hauiiher, knives and 2 forks from the camp of one William Sims, a fisherman, at Barooga, sometime between 9th and 16th February. - Evidence fur the prosecution was j tendered by Coustable Tennant,: of Cob-am, and Donald Sims. It would ■ appear that the boys came upon " Sims'camp near the river during his temporary absence, and found a' hammer, which was lying near by at the water's edge. ^ They used the hamiiier and kept it, Pianck taking it home. Nothing came out in the evidence of the other articles missed. Accused, who were undefended, pleaded guilty of taking the ham mer, and elected to be dealt with by the Magistrate. There is quite a num ber of golfers now resident in the town, and a stroug club should be formed. A guarantee ot 4/4 per bushel ou the 1819-20 wheat harvest is off ered by the Federal Ministry.
