Charters Towers Committee THE ordinary monthly meeting of the Charters Towers Committee was held on Thursday night   at the Albion Hotel, Present Messrs Hubert (Chairman), Jamison, O'Neil, H. Ross, O'Kane, Barnett, Tierney, H. R. Rutherford, Ackers, Aland, Malcolm, Lissner, Mills. Cusack, Davie. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The secretary read a letter from W. T. Taylor,pro Inspector of Mines, dated 20th August, acknowledging receipt of secretary's letter of 3rd August, in reference to the estab- lishment of a Record Court at Charters Towers. Mr. H. Ross then moved his adjourned motion for the establishment of a Municipality; it would be a great advantage to the town and would be for their own good in the long run. Mr. O'Kane supported the motion. Since the last meeting he found that the exemptions from rating which he had then stated were not   so certain. A DEPUTATION of memben of the common jury resident on the Towers waited, by appointment, on Mr. District Court Judge Hirst, yesterday morning, shortly after uinc o'clock, in the Court House. ME. HESAT HUBEBT introduced the deputa tion, and said that the jury desired to submit to his Honor-First: The great hardship to which they were ^subjected in Ming constantly on the jury roll. No feddiUon had been mode to it for the last two years. The population bad largely inoreased, and from one hundred to one hundred and twenty names could without difficulty be added to the panel.
