The Northern Clerical Derby. [Newspaper Article] — Queensland Figaro and Punch — 8 August 1885

i m The Northern Clerical Derby. The North Queensland clergy are nob, as a rule, particularly skilful horsemen; but there is one variety of steed on which they appear to he quite at home, and that is the hobby horse* At the late Church Conference at Charters Towers, each rode his own particular hobby manfully* to his flwn complete satisfaction, if not to that of his hearers.: The Eight Revd. President led the way on the quiet, smooth-paced cob " Conciliation," accompanied by his Ven. Coadjutor on the easy-cantering, cream colored pony, " Church music," and by the Rev. Abel Turner on the useful bay roadster. " Church Attenf dance." The Revd. A. Edwards' skilful horseman ship was > all required; to keep his hiot*headed grey '"Teetotaler" from running away with him; while" the Rev. T. Taylor excited some alarm by turning his fidgety pie-bald " Candidate" to all points of the compass in turn in his notable exploration of the " Weird Australian Hills." The* Revs. Worthington and Tucke...
