The following tatment by Mr. Dyer gives so clear a descption of the in vention that the proposalt may be easily comprebended: I, Joseph Dyer. of Wellinuon, eldam to have invented and discovered anew aud laot proved method of constructing wa walls or breakwaters, whereby the force o' the waves is so broken and subdued that h rbours of refuge may be more cheaply and ralidly con atructed than has hitherto been the tane. I oppose to the advancing wave a will, not composed of a fiat surface, which woult offer resistance to its approach, but a wall coot posed of longltnudcal cells or tubes, the cpen ends of which, closely fitted together, font' the wave. A BREAIH -OP PROMISE OASE,. In the Exchequer Division on Tuesday, June 20, Mr. Barony Cleasby, with a special jury, tried the case of " Webb v. Davidson." This was an action for a brench of promise of marriage. The de= fondant pleaded that a reasonable time haed not elapsed for the fulfilment of the promiseo. Mr. Walddy, Q.C.. anld Air, Grain were counsel for tie plaintiff, and Mr. Cave, Q.C., for the defenldant, Mr. Waddy having opened the case for the plaintiff, entered into a narrative of the circumstances conneoted wiith tile introduction of the parties to eacih other, the offer of a marriage, its nocoptlane, the unhappy rnpture of their friendlyrelatious, and the final declaration on the defon dante' part to retire from his engagement. Lmnds Bailiff, chargod Mark IHinchcliffe with removing timber fromn Crown lands without a license. Defendant admitted the charge, and was Bead ie and5s costs. Thomas Cave, a carrier, residing at geywood, ,applied to the Beonch for a warrant to arrest a boy named Charles Carlisle, whom he had adopted some years ago from the Industrial and foformatory Sihool, but who had been in the habit of leaving hie sorvico at intorvels, and damaging his character throughout tho distriot. The boy had again absoonded, and complainant applied for a warrant for his arrest. The Bench ordered the warrant to issue free of charge.
