HELP YOURSELF [Newspaper Article] — Mornington Standard — 28 December 1889

HELP YOURSELF Fight your battles. Hoe your own row. Ask no favours of anyone, and you'll suc ceeda thousand times better than one who is always beseeching someone's influence and patronage. No one will ever help you as you can help yo:rself, llecause no one will ho so helirtiIy iqterested in your affairs. The firbt stop will be sallc a long one, perhaps; but carving your own way up the mountain you make each one lead to another, and stand flrm;while yo chdop still another out. Men who have made fortunes are -not - thos who.. have .had 5,000dol. given to them to start with, but boys who have started with a well-. earned dollar or two. . Men who acquire fanie have never been thrust into popularity by puffs begged or paid for or given in friendly spirit. They have outstretched their own hands and touched the public heart. Men who win love to do their own wooing, and we never knew a man to fail so signally as one who inducedl his affectionate grandmother to speak a gobd word for him. Wh...

A: NEWSPAPER CLIPPING. 'Twas a clipping from a papler Telling of some funny caper On the stage; So I read it every letter, Saying that I'd seen no better For an age.
