Jubilee Procession A Brilliant And Colourful Spectacle 50 Years Of Progress Illustrated In Amazing Parade OUTSTANDING SUCCESS DUE TO SPLENDID EFFORT OF ORGANISERS [Newspaper Article] — Boorowa News — 9 March 1951

Jubilee Pfocessioh A Brilliant And Colourful Spectacle 50 Yeats Of Progress Illustrated In Amazing Parade OUTSTANDING SUCCESS DUE TO SPLENDID EFFORT OF ORGANISERS , Before what was almost the greatest crowd of people ever to torong tne^creeis of Boorowa, the Jubilee Procession which wended its way through xtlie riniiijasec^ tions of the town, provided the most brilliant and colourful spectacle ever in the history of Boorowa. The procession itself was well worthy of the attention andip plause it received from the great crowd, faithfully portraying, as it did, the fifty ? years of progress knee the signing of Federation in 1901. The odd mixture of pathos, humor, tragedy aud plain hard striving which blend to mark the ouward surge of the human race in auy age was very apparent in this 50 years, punctuated as they were by two dis astrous conflicts'. V The organisation of the procession was a triumph for the Bommjttee, and the various sectional organisers must receive the thanks of the p...

JAMES COOK Captain James Cook, discoverer of die east coast o). Australia, was one of England's ablest navigators and an astronomer of note. He set out in the 'Endeavour' in 1768. bound foe Tahiti to make observations of the planet Venus His orders, however, also provided for charting the coasts of New Zealand and searching for 'the Great South Land.' Leaving New Zealand in March, 1770, Cook sighted the south east coast of Australia a few weeks later. He discovered and named Botany Bay, care fully explored and. mapped the 'coast northward and finally, on Possession Island in Torres Strait, took possession of the whole eastern .coast, naming it New South Wales. On a later voyage, he proved that there was no . large continent between New Zealand and South America, thus removing an old misconception. On the occasion of the jubilee of the Common wedtb of Australia, the Bank of New South Wales— Australia's pioneer Bank — honours the explorers who opened the way for the development of thi...

WELL ORGANISED BURNING OFF [Newspaper Article] — Boorowa News — 9 March 1951

WELL ORGANISED BURNING OFF On March 1st a mighty blaze arose in the north-west. Smoke could be seen billow ing in rolling clouds before a background of fiery glow. A number of not-so-near neigh bours raced for the blaze believ ing that the feared bush fires had begun. Some didn't even get to the blaze before they were informed that it was mere ly the result of a well-organised, closely guarded burning off on the property of Mr. W. Cassells. The sight was well worth seeing and the result quite ?sat- isfactory to Mr. Cassells, who should .get a deal of green feed through ' before the winter frosts . Such a well-organised burning off is a credit to the organisers and the officers of the local Fire Brigade.
